High Chief Gift Okonu Foundation (HCGOF), a brainchild of Chief Gift Okonu was incorporated by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in July 2020, making it a legally recognized non-profit. Prior to its incorporation, HCGOF has been coordinating and leading efforts to improve the lives of indigent people in many urban and rural communities of Rivers and Abia States. HCGOF Office is headquartered in Port Harcourt and working in Nigeria and Africa at large as a platform targeted at helping and supporting widows.
Its background overview gives insight into the driving force behind our organization. In 2008, late Mrs. Ngozi Okonu, the founder’s mother conceived the idea of setting up a foundation that touches the lives of the needy in her local community. With her widow’s might, she supported people in her locality. In an effort to be the positive change she sought, she helped some establish their businesses, resuscitated moribund businesses, and sponsored vocational training. After doing her bit, she mandated her son not to let her legacy die.
In order to keep her dreams alive, High Chief Gift Okonu, the current Chairman of DECH International Oil and Gas, took his mother’s efforts to the next level. To this end, he doubled his mother’s commendable efforts and met the requirements to legally establish the nonprofit. Based in Ogbakiri town in Emuoha Local Government Area, HCGOF is spearing efforts to tackle unemployment and alleviate abject poverty in the South-South and South East. Today, our Foundation stands tall in the role we have played in putting smiles on people from these regions. Sure, we strive to drive the positive change we seek in our host community beyond.
